Ron English: Abjest Expressionism book

Ron English is the finest technical painter in the Street Art/Graffiti game. The only person that comes close is Robbie Conal. He’s also been at it longer than a lot of the folks that are getting famous by wheatpasting clever images all around. It’s great to see that he’s still at it and being recognized for his contribution and skills. The books is available through Last Gasp.

I’ve met Ron a couple of times and was lucky enough to visit his studio once. The paintings were amazing, of course. But the thing that I really remember was a painting that was left behind by someone else. “What’s that?” I think Susan asked. “Just something Jasper left.” The Jasper was Jasper Johns.

Woolner shop graffiti a ‘work of art’

These shop owners don’t sound so upset about having a big piece done on their building. It also sounds as if their logo was included, they might not even paint over it. Maybe that’s what kids should be doing, including logos in illegal pieces…?

From news.com.au:

A DARWIN business was surprised to find graffiti about 20m long and 2m high on its shop wall.

Jebfab Ezy-Serve Food owners Mitchell Smart and Michael Cramer said it was a “work of art”.

“It just blew me away,” Mr Smart said. “It is massive and is actually quite good. It is like professionals have done it.

“They’ve obviously spent a lot of time and effort doing it. They could have done our company logo.”

It is believed vandals painted the masterpiece on the fruit and vegetable processor shop on Bishop St in Woolner overnight on Tuesday.

Mr Smart said while he was “impressed” he planned to paint it over.

NT Police announced a crackdown on “taggers” in Darwin in September, saying vandals would be forced to clean up graffiti if caught.

Police have urged businesses hit by graffiti to take photos before cleaning up to help prevent copycat tagging.

NYC Secede Now tshirt

NYC Secede Now tshirt, originally uploaded by victorybros.

I made these right after the last presidential election. I should have posted this when Normal Mailer passed away, because he ran his mayoral campaign on the Secession platform. Hopefully I don’t have to print another batch next year.

Textures, a little tiny house

Living in an increasingly prefab world, the question we asked ourselves was: is it possible to detail an entire house as if it were jewellery? And can we achieve this using modern automated fabrication techniques? In order not to fall back onto traditional decorative patterns we devised an archetypal house in four cut-through layers of different textures from graffiti to wall paper, including bricks, tubing, carpets etc… We used the iconography of all these elements to build up a new layered house (scale 1:25) out of two materials: glass and metal, the metal structure being laser-cut. To add some drama we included personally designed elements such as a hart shape door, but also included graffiti found on the internet, such as the beautiful ‘Love and honesty in our struggle’ tag by the Bolevian group Mujeres Creando.

Good luck trying to find this on their site. It’s obvious they don’t design for new media.

Thanks to Atelier A+D for this piece.
